Stephen Harper Trolls Leafs, Canucks Fans After Big Habs Win (TWEETS)

LOOK: Harper Trolls Leafs, Canucks Fans After Big Habs Win

Prime Minister Stephen Harper has evidently decided he doesn't need votes from anyone in Toronto or Vancouver to win again in 2015.

Okay, not really.

But, moments after the Montreal Canadiens eliminated the big, bad Boston Bruins from the Stanley Cup playoffs Wednesday night, Harper fired off a tweet that didn't sit well with some Leafs and Canucks fans.

But Habs fans? They loved it.

"Great to see a Canadian team finally take out the Bruins in a game 7," he wrote.

Too soon, prime minister.

Of course, the Bruins defeated the Canucks in game 7 of the Stanley Cup final in 2011. You may recall how well some Canucks fans dealt with that heartbreak.

And last year, the Bruins sent the Leafs packing after coming back from a three-goal deficit in the third period of a first-round game 7. Toronto fans will tell you it still stings.

The PM's tweet has been retweeted more than 1,600 times already.

Harper has said he is cheering for the Canadiens this year — the only Canadian team in the playoffs.

The prime minister, who recently wrote a hockey history book, is often cited as a Leafs fan. Yet, his spokesperson told The Huffington Post Canada in October that he just cheers for "all Canadian teams."

As such, Harper has been accused of jumping on bandwagons by reportedly supporting the Edmonton Oilers in the '80s and Calgary Flames during their 2004 Cup run.

As mentioned, reaction to Harper's tweet was mixed.

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau, a Habs fan, also took to Twitter to offer his congratulations.

But Harper's tweet certainly sparked the most buzz.

Yahoo! Canada hockey blogger Harrison Mooney called it a "pretty quality troll."

"Harper probably didn't mean to do it," Mooney wrote. "He was just trying to cheer for his favourite team: whichever Canadian team is winning right now."
