Naheed Nenshi Takes On Radio Caller In Heated Exchange (AUDIO)

It's no secret Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi loves to debate.

But he's being called "condescending" for his quick tongue and strong opinions after a heated exchange with a constituent who called in to Newstalk 770's Calgary Today show.

Lori called in at approximately 3:35 p.m. Thursday to ask Nenshi a few questions — one being exactly how much the city spends on the Report to Calgarians TV ads.

When Nenshi said he didn't know, Lori accused him of "foo-fooing" the art budget.

Nenshi then asked Lori to explain where she would like to see cuts made.

The two went back and forth on several areas of spending that Lori felt were excessive, and Nenshi provided the stats on those programs.

“Tell you what," Nenshi said. "Save me a bunch of money. Why don’t you send me a letter at the start of every week and just tell me what Calgarians think. And then we won’t spend any money on consultation.”

“That’s condescending,” Lori countered.

The two continued to debate the amount spent on budget consultations and flood open houses, before Nenshi said they will have to agree to disagree.

Lori hung up shortly after.
