A province-wide Amber Alert has been cancelled after a newborn baby was found safe after being abducted from Ville-Marie hospital in Trois-Rivieres Monday evening. Police say a female suspect has been arrested.

Shortly before 7 p.m. ET, a woman dressed as a nurse entered the maternity ward of the hospital, accessing the room of a new mother “under false pretenses,” according to Sûreté du Québec.

The woman allegedly wrapped the day-old infant in a blue blanket and left the hospital. A security camera captured footage of the suspect wearing burgundy scrubs. She was seen driving away in a red Toyota Yaris hatchback with a "Bébé à bord" sticker on the back window.

CTV News reports the baby girl has been reunited with her mother.

The motive behind the abduction remains unclear.
