Missing woman Natasha Winsor found dead near New World Island

RCMP have confirmed they've pulled the body of Natasha Winsor from an SUV submerged near the causeway to New World Island.

Earlier in the week, Twillingate RCMP issued a missing person's alert for Winsor, 24, after she left Twillingate May 25 for her home in Embree and never arrived at her destination.

Police say the SUV was discovered Tuesday morning during low tide when a truck driver was passing over the causeway and noticed a tire sticking out of the water. The driver alerted authorities.

Emergency crews covered the vehicle with an orange tarp before pulling it out of the water.

Once the vehicle was back on the road, Winsor's body was removed and taken away in an ambulance.

Police said the vehicle apparently went out of control and ended up in the ocean. Accident investigators are headed to the area to try to figure out what went wrong, and why the vehicle went off the road.
