Toronto Mayor Rob Ford will be back at work as early as June 30 or July 1, Coun. Doug Ford confirmed on Friday.

The mayor, who checked into an Ontario rehab facility on April 30, is currently on a temporary leave of absence while he seeks treatment for substance abuse issues.

Coun. Ford discussed his brother's “problems with alcohol” on Newstalk 1010’s Live Drive with Ryan Doyle and said the mayor is taking rehab "really seriously."

“I think he’ll be a healthier person, his mind will be clear. Put the demons behind him,” Ford told listeners. He also brushed off his brother's problems as a "bump in the road" and mentioned that other politicians have been able to turn their lives around from similar circumstances.

“He’s going to have four months to show the people that he’s moving forward, he’s changed in personal ways,” Ford explained.

Earlier in the week, Coun. Ford hinted his brother would be back in four to five weeks’ time, and added that the mayor is “looking fabulous.”

Mayor Ford also celebrated his 45th birthday at a family-friendly restaurant and bar on Wednesday with his two children and two unidentified women. He is reportedly allowed to leave the rehab facility's premises if he's supervised.

Despite the mayor’s month-long absence from city hall, he has still managed to make headlines.

Last week, Ford’s Cadillac Escalade was impounded after a woman identified as 36-year-old LeeAnne McRobb was allegedly caught driving the SUV drunk around the Muskoka area. She was charged with impaired driving.

It was later revealed McRobb is a former patient of GreenStone, the residential rehab facility Ford is seeking treatment at in the Muskoka-area.

Ford gained international notoriety last year after reports of a video of the mayor smoking crack cocaine surfaced, forcing the mayor to publicly admit to using the drug.

He is currently seeking re-election for a second term.
