This Burlap Grad Dress Was Stunning

Courtney Barich made good on a pledge to wear a burlap dress to her graduation from Surrey's Holy Cross Regional High School on Friday — and looked absolutely stunning while doing it.

The 18-year-old student shared photos of the gorgeous dress on her Facebook page Sunday.

Courtney Barich Wears Burlap Dress To Surrey Grad

She came up with the idea while she was shopping for a grad gown earlier this year and realized she wasn't sure she wanted to spend over $700 on something she would only wear once.

Her mom said she'd look good in anything, and the idea came to her.

Barich bought burlap fabric from a store in Cloverdale for $3 and had Suman Faulkner at Lata Design make the dress for her.

Her grad date even jumped on board with the idea, agreeing to wear a burlap vest and bowtie to match her dress.

Barich wore the dress as part of an effort to raise $10,000 for St. Martin De Porres Orphanage in the Philippines.

She travelled to the orphanage in the spring and saw impoverished children sleeping in garbage bags, CTV News reported.

Barich will visit the orphanage again in September and is collecting donations until she leaves. So far she has raised $7,500.
