EDMONTON - An Edmonton woman has been given a conditional sentence for helping her brother after he escaped from prison.

Sandra Lynn Myshak, who is 51, admitted to helping William Bicknell before he committed several crimes in 2011.

Bicknell escaped while on an escorted pass from Drumheller Institution.

Bicknell, who is 6-foot-6 inches tall and 400 pounds, faked a heart attack, then overpowered his guard with a knife.

He phoned Myshak to come open a storage unit where he grabbed guns and ammunition, then was on the lam for nine days, holding the guard and three other people hostage in their homes.

Myshak pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting Bicknell to remain unlawfully at large.

She will be under house arrest for nine months, plus another nine months of curfew.
