Power outage affecting 16,000 customers in east Toronto

A large power outage is affecting about 16,000 customers in the city's east end this morning.

The affected area is bordered by:

- St. Clair Avenue West in the north and extending south to Lake Ontario.

- Don Valley Parkway in the west and Victoria Park Avenue in the east.

Some customers inside this area are reporting they have power, so it appears the outage is affecting pockets of neighourhoods in the area. Toronto Hydro's outage map is posted here.

"From social media reports, we can see that the outages appear to be spotty," CBC's Linda Ward reported. "Some people in neighbourhoods inside this area are reporting they have power, that they've never lost it."

Toronto Hydro officials say the cause of the outage is not known. There is no estimated time service will be restored.

TTC service, on both subways and streetcars, has not been affected by the outage. Follow @TTCnotices on Twitter for details.

Downtown schools affected, so far no closures

- The Toronto District School Board said many schools in the downtown area were without power as of 8 a.m., but said "no closures are planned."

- The Toronto Catholic School Board says their schools remain open, but they are monitoring the situation. So far only two TCSB schools — St. Denis and Notre Dame — are without power. Both are in the Beach neighbourhood.
