One Of Our Writers Flew A Jetpack. It Didn't Go So Well

Maybe some people just aren't meant to fly.

When I heard that flyboarding was coming to Toronto, I knew I had to try it. Who doesn't want to fly high through the air on streams of highly-pressurized water?

I spent several days Googling things like "flyboarding injuries" and "first person to die flyboarding" (nobody yet), but ultimately my desire to overcome gravity was greater than my fear of seriously damaging my body.

The inaugural Flyboard North American Championships are taking place this weekend at the Toronto Waterfront Festival and the pros agreed to show me the ropes.

What happened next was, well, painful. You can see it all in the video above.

While licking my wounds after the test flight I learned that a crucial piece of equipment had been missing from my gear, leading to the unpredictable in-flight behaviour you'll see in the video. For me, it simply wasn't meant to be.
