Light The Bridge Edmonton Sees 50,000 Bulbs Burn For First Time (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

WATCH: Edmonton Bridge Transformed By 50,000 Lights

It's been a long road, but Edmonton’s High Level Bridge was finally lit up by more than 50,000 LED lights for the first time Tuesday night, as the Light the Bridge project was unveiled.

The project was the culmination of a long period of fundraising through private and corporate dollars. Citizens and companies were invited to buy bulbs to fund the installation.

Tuesday's spectacular show was synchronized to a version of “O Canada”, performed by the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Edmontonians could listen along as the song was streamed live on CKUA 94.9 FM.

"Every single one of those lights becomes programmable so whether it's the northern lights working their way across the bridge in blues and greens or it's choreographed to an outdoor symphony or whether it's a simulcast on a radio station, the sky is the limit,'' project mastermind Dave Mowat said earlier this year.
