Boy Struck By Pellet Gun While Drunk Dad Shoots Pigeons

Drunk Dad's Pigeon Shooting Game Leads To Standoff

A drunken game of shooting pigeons turned into a standoff with B.C. police on Tuesday evening.

A 40-year-old man and two others were drinking and shooting pigeons with a pellet gun, when his 12-year-old son wandered away, according to Langley RCMP. The boy was somehow shot with a pellet in the hip area.

When the boy's mom confronted the man, he assaulted her, left the pellet gun, and barricaded himself inside the home. The others called police just before 8 p.m. and warned that there may be other guns inside.

Several homes nearby were evacuated "out of an abundance of caution," said RCMP.

After about two hours, a police negotiator was able to coax the man out and arrest him without more trouble.

Charges are pending, said RCMP.
