As if Nickelback hasn't caused enough distress in the world with their music, two men in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho felt the pain when they were recently detained, and one handcuffed, by police for uttering the word 'Nickelback.'
The two young men say they were merely commenting on another car that was playing music by the Canadian rockers -- and thus committing the real crime -- at a gas station when police officers approached them thinking they said "nickel sack" as opposed to "Nickelback."
Believing that they were talking about marijuana, the cops confronted the men even as they explained, "I said he's blaring Nickelback. We can literally go over there and stop him and ask which band he was listening to right now."
The two young men videotaped the absurdist interaction occurrence, which quickly changed from hilarious to frightening with one of them exclaiming to the police officer, "Woah, dude, woah, why are you pulling your gun out?" This was followed by the police officer yelling, "Put your fucking hands on the dash."
According to the Coeur d’Alene Press, neither man was charged. The sheriff's department is refusing to release the officers' names (we'd be embarrassed, too) but said the matter is being internally investigated.
"Obviously our deputies are human -- they're not infallible," Lt. Stu Miller told the CDA Press. "But I've got to make sure the deputies are treated fairly in this as well."
