DUI charges dropped against Toronto Raptor Jonas Valanciunas

Drunk driving charges have been dropped against Toronto Raptors centre Jonas Valanciunas.

CBC News confirmed that Valanciunas was charged with driving under the influence in Wasaga Beach, Ont., in early April after he was spotted allegedly driving out of a fast food drive-thru with open beer bottles in his vehicle.

Police say officers later located the vehicle, where they arrested Valanciunas alleging he was under the influence of alcohol while driving. He was charged with having greater than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

The Crown advised the court that there was "not a reasonable prospect of conviction" and would be dropping the charges.

Valanciunas, who was 21 at the time of the charge, averaged 11.3 points and 8.8 rebounds in 81 games last season.

"I apologize to the organization, my teammates, my family and my fans, and regret any negativity this incident has brought upon them," Valanciunas said at the time of the charge.
