A warning to Toronto motorists looking to cruise along Lake Shore Boulevard this week: the annual Honda Indy promises to slow down your plans.

Starting on Wednesday at 9 p.m., the lakefront thoroughfare will be closed from Strachan Avenue to British Columbia Road for the race. The stretch is set to re-open on Sunday just before midnight.

The races will run on Saturday and Sunday, but crews will be setting up the course starting on Wednesday night.

Formerly known as the Molson Indy Toronto, the annual event sees 2.82 kilometres of roads weaving through Exhibition Place converted into an IndyCar Series race track.

The closures will also affect TTC buses that run through the area. Southbound 29 Dufferin buses will be turning back at the Dufferin Gates until the end of Sunday.

Also, the 145 Downtown/Humber Bay Express, 316 Ossington and 329 Dufferin will be making diversions on Saturday and Sunday as result of the race.
