Toronto balcony death considered suspicious, police say

An apparent fall from a downtown balcony is now under investigation as a suspicious death, Toronto police say.

A call for unknown trouble came into police on July 4 at 2:30 a.m., regarding a situation in the Stephanie Street and McCaul Street area.

Police say there had been "a loud disturbance" that woke people up.

At the scene, they found a 20-year-old woman, who appeared to have fallen from a residential balcony. She was taken to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Her death is considered suspicious and police are making an appeal to the public for information.

Const. Jenniferjit Sidhu told CBC News that police are not releasing the woman’s name for investigative reasons.

But police have released a photo of the deceased.
