People are being encouraged to take public transit and to allow extra time to get to their destinations starting Friday.
The 2014 Honda Indy, which roars into town this weekend, has already triggered the temporary closure of sections of Strachan Avenue and Lake Shore Boulevard in both directions.
The City of Toronto says Strachan Avenue, from Lake Shore Boulevard to Fleet Street and Lake Shore Boulevard, from Strachan Avenue to British Columbia Drive, will remain closed until Sunday at 11:59 p.m.
In addition, there are Blue Jays games — at 7 p.m. on Friday night and at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday — and concerts (including two Katy Perry concerts on Friday and Saturday nights at the Air Canada Centre).
The Live Green Toronto Festival on Saturday will result in the closure of Yonge Street from Edward to Queen, starting at 6:30 a.m. to midnight.
To add to that already lengthy list, there are many festivals in neighbourhoods around the city including:
- Big on Bloor Festival (between Dufferin and Lansdowne).
- The Chinatown Festival (Spadina and Dundas streets).
