Man trapped under crane at York Region construction site

Rescuers in York Region were working Thursday night to free a man trapped under a crane at a construction site in East Gwillimbury.

Just after 6:05 p.m., police received a 911 call about an emergency in the area of Concession Road 2 and Queensiville Side Road, said Sgt. Darrin Leitch of the York Regional Police.

Once on scene, crews began the effort to extract a worker who had become trapped under a crane.

“The cruisers are still working to get the male out from under the crane,” Leitch told CBC News at around 8:30 p.m.

The victim was been talking with firefighters during the rescue, but he has serious injuries, Leitch said.

Police say the victim will be airlifted to hospital.

Investigators are probing the cause of the incident, Leitch said.
