Rob Ford's nephew running for Toronto city council

A man named Ford is running for Toronto city council – and his name isn’t Rob or Doug.

Michael, the son of the mayor’s sister, Kathy, registered his candidacy on Friday, city records show.

Michael Ford, the college-aged nephew of the embattled mayor, is running to replace Doug Ford as the councillor for Etobicoke’s Ward 2.

Doug Ford announced in January that he wouldn’t be running in October’s municipal election, choosing instead to focus on brother Rob’s re-election campaign.

The Ward 2 councillor’s decision raised speculation that another member of the family would vie for the seat.

Last October, on the The City, the now-defunct radio talk show on CFRB 1010, Rob and Doug announced that their nephew “Mikey” was eager to enter politics.

The younger Ford is the 11th candidate who has registered to run in the northwest Toronto ward.
