Montreal pro-Palestinian protest sees tempers briefly flare

A protest march in solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip saw hundreds gather at Montreal's Jarry Park to call for an end to the bloodshed there.

The otherwise peaceful march saw tempers flare briefly between a handful of pro-Palestinian protesters and a lone woman waving an Israeli flag.

Protesters initially exchanged words with the woman, but the situation escalated when an older man tried to grab her flag.

The woman fell to the ground but was able to get up after other marchers intervened and appealed for calm.

The woman, who identified herself as Terri Allister, was unhurt in the incident.

She told reporters that she had every right to voice her opinion alongside the pro-Palestinian marchers.

She was later approached by other participants in the march who hugged her and told reporters that peace is the only option for the Middle East.

The march continued on its way to the Jean-Talon market area, with many participants holding on to a giant Palestinian flag.
