Mommy Giraffe Protects Her Calf From Lions (VIDEO)

Mommy Giraffe Protects Her Baby Against Pride Of Lions

What's the difference between a mother giraffe and a hockey mom? Lipstick.

Bill and Barbara Westbrook were visiting the Kicheche Bush Camp in Masai Mara, Kenya for the seventh time when they spotted a giraffe protecting her calf against a pride of lions.

A video posted to YouTube earlier this month shows the giraffe standing over the calf and raising her legs at the lions, which immediately stops their approach.

"Each time I think we can never beat the last," Barbara said. "But this was remarkable, going on for almost half an hour as the mother protected her calf ferociously from the young Moniko pride."

Giraffes certainly aren't the animal kingdom's most fierce predators, but if you threaten their babies, you better watch out.
