Nick Phongsavath's death at Pemberton Music Festival not foul play

Police have ruled that the death of Nick Phongsavath at the Pemberton Music Festival in B.C. last Friday was not as a result of foul play.

In a statement released Tuesday, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said that the results of a July 21 autopsy, witness statements and evidence found at the scene all have "determined that foul play is not a contributing factor in [Phongsavath's] death."

The investigation has been transferred from IHIT to the Whistler/Pemberton RCMP.

Phongsavath, 21, was found unresponsive in his tent on the grounds of the music event shortly after 6 p.m. PT Friday.

He was a computer engineering student at the University of Regina and was set to graduate next year. He had been working as an intern for a Regina information technology company.
