Sherbrooke couple accused of child abuse in court today

A Sherbrooke, Que., couple accused of abusing four children between ages four and 14 are expected to be arraigned today.

The 34-year-old man and 27-year-old woman cannot be identified under the provincial Youth Protection Act because it could identify the children.

The couple was arrested Monday morning.

The two are facing a number of charges, including forcible confinement, assault, and failure to provide the necessaries of life to a child — in this case, food — after four children aged four, five, six and 14 were removed from their care.

Police said the five-year-old was so badly malnourished that they feared for his life.

The man is also facing charges of sexual assault, invitation to sexual touching and sexual contact with a minor.
