Drone Captures Scale Of Gaza Protest In Toronto

Protesters descended on Queen's Park Saturday to protest the violence in Gaza. A drone captured the scale of the demonstration.

The footage shows the pro-Palestinian group, but a pro-Israeli contingent was also present. Barricades were used by police to keep the two factions separated.

There were also rallies on Sunday and at least one violent clash. Punches were exchanged, according to the Toronto Star, over a protester carrying a sign of the Israeli flag with the star of David replaced by a swastika.

No charges were laid.

Conservative MP John Carmichael spoke to the pro-Israel group on Sunday and shared a message from Prime Minister Stephen Harper: "Hamas’s indiscriminate attacks on civilians are reprehensible actions which require Israel to defend itself. Canada stands unequivocally behind Israel."

The crowd then chanted Harper's name, according to Global News.

The Palestinian death toll passed 1,000 over the weekend, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. The Israeli Defense Forces said 46 Israelis had died, 43 of them soldiers, as of Sunday.
