Peel Regional Police have tracked an off-duty member of their service who they said was "in crisis" to Hamilton.

With the assistance of Hamilton police and other forces, the officer was stopped in the area of Peters Corners, near Highways 5, 52 and 8.

Nearby residents say they can see yellow police tape and many police cars along the side of the road.

Peel police tweeted about an hour ago asking that media and public stay away from the area.

Highway 5 is closed.
