Canada's Sultana Frizell won her second straight Commonwealth Games title in the women's hammer throw Monday in Glasgow.

The 29-year-old from Perth, Ont., threw 71.97 metres to break her own Commonwealth Games record and claim Canada's first track and field medal at these Games.

Frizell set a new Commonwealth Games record of 68.92 metres in qualifying Sunday, and broke that with her first throw of the final Monday before bettering it on a subsequent attempt.

Her medal was the third of the day for Canada. Swimmer Brittany MacLean finished third in the women's 800-metre freestyle, and weightlifter Marie-Josée Arès-Pilon did the same in the women's 69-kilogram division.
