Calgary police say they recently clocked at least one driver going 251 km/h on city streets.

Speed traps, set up for a five hour intervals on July 26, caught street racing operations around the city, they said.

Barlow Trail and Stoney Trail proved popular strips for the dangerous activity, and police issued 25 summonses for stunting, speeding and equipment violations during the speed trap blitz.

Police have warned they will step up patrols to try and calm the few drivers who are showing off and posing a danger to others. Anyone who witnesses racing in the city is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
