News of Alison Redford's resignation from Alberta politics spread like wildfire across social media Wednesday morning.
Most Albertans seemed relieved, or downright elated, that the beleaguered ex-premier announced her decision to step away from her seat as a backbench MLA for Calgary-Elbow.
In an opinion article written for Postmedia newspapers Wednesday morning, Redford acknowledged mistakes were made during her time as leader of the governing Progressive Conservatives.
"In hindsight, there were many things I would have done differently," she wrote. "That said, I accept responsibility for all the decisions I have made."

It's been a rough year for Redford, who resigned as premier in March after growing concern from her caucus and constituents over what many thought was excessive and reckless spending of taxpayer money.
Since leaving office, she has faced increased criticism over her travel habits.
Last week, the CBC reported that a leaked review from Alberta auditor general Merwan Saher found that passenger lists on government aircraft were altered so that Redford could fly alone.
