First 'Weird' Al Yankovic won the internet by releasing eight music video spoofs in eight days. Then he won the music industry by landing his first number one album and best sales week ever, a remarkable feat for someone who's been making music since 1979.
Now it's time for 'Weird Al' to win the Super Bowl -- or at least the Super Bowl Halftime Show.
A petition was launched on Change.org by an admittedly drunken man ("hence the bad grammar") named Ed Ball from Washington state who hoped to get Weird Al booked for the big game to avoid "Justin Beiber and Selena Gomez, Iggy Azalea, that band that sings “Rude”, among many other terrible ideas...Do you want Miley Cyrus?!? Because this is how you will end up with Miley Cyrus!!!"
So far he's gotten over 100,000 signatures, and the numbers keep surging. Here's the full plea to the NFL to book Weird Al for the Super Bowl:
For decades Weird Al has entertained fans, young and old, with his popular clever parodies and unique sense of humor. Having him headline the Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show. would not only be overly accepted by the millions of views, but it would remain true to the standards and quality of the show business we have come to love and respect out of this prestigious event. The songs of artists that he is parodying could join him on stage to accompany, as well as other surprise appearances from well-known actors/actresses, adding more prestige and star power. The theatrics alone would be hilarious and a welcoming change, and draw a wider audience of fans that typically would not tune into the championship game or half-time show.
Oh, and here are the eight recent Weird Al video parodies, including his now-perfect athletic spoof: "Sports Song," "Tacky," "Word Crimes," "FOIL," "Handy," "First World Problems," "Lame Claim To Fame" and "Mission Statement."
