Airdrie Hail Scam Captures Attention Of RCMP

Airdrie RCMP are warning residents about door-to-door scams linked to last week's hail storm.

Police say fraudsters are showing up on doorsteps, posing as restoration and construction crews. They offer repair work at a discounted price, asking for half of the money up front.

The catch is that they never make good on their promise to return.

RCMP say some of the scammers even go so far as to take photos of the damage, to make their offers look more legitimate.

"It is recommended to research companies and request credentials prior to entering into business contracts or giving deposits," said RCMP in a release.

"If it seems too good to be true, it likely is."

Construction workers don't usually solicit work door-to-door and police ask that anyone who witnesses this activity to report any information by calling 403-945-7200 or 403-945-7267.
