Police say the five robberies took place between July 22 and Aug. 13. Four of the robberies were in Toronto; one was in Markham.
The robberies followed a similar pattern: a group would enter the bank armed with guns and jump over the counters and quickly take control of the bank's employees and customers.
Police say the suspects used a combination of physical force and threats to get to the cash quickly.
The suspects also often switched roles, from lookout to getaway driver.
Of the nine people charged, four are youths. Police have also issued a warrant for one young person they believe was involved in the robberies.
