Homemade Inclined Elevator Crash Injures 3 People On Sunshine Coast

Homemade Elevator Crash Critically Injures 3 People

A homemade inclined elevator on a private property on B.C.'s Sunshine Coast failed over the weekend, sending it crashing down about 30 metres to the ground.

A cable snapped on the funicular as its car was going up the hill on rails near the Langdale ferry terminal near Gibsons, reported CBC News. Two men and a woman were inside.

Because of the terrain, a hovercraft took the patients to a spot where they could be reached by helicopter, the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre told CTV. Two people suffered critical injuries and were flown to a Vancouver hospital by air ambulance.

One man was taken to hospital in Sechelt, said Global News.
