Age: 32.

Early years: Gallant's parents moved around the province throughout his childhood seeking work. At one point, he and his family moved in with his grandparents. He was an avid tennis player, winning provincial championships alongside his brother Pierre. He practised corporate, commercial and immigration law before entering politics.

Education: Has a bachelor of business administration and a bachelor of law from the University of Moncton, and a master of law from McGill University.

Political career: First ran for the provincial Liberals in 2006, losing to then-premier Bernard Lord in the riding of Moncton-East. Became leader of the Liberals in October 2012 and was elected to the legislature after winning a byelection in Kent in April 2013.

Family: Parents Marilyn Scholten and Pierre Gallant. Gallant is single.
