A bar owned by a Cape Breton mayor has been temporarily blocked from selling alcohol or lottery tickets after a scandal involving four strippers.

Documents posted on Thursday show the disciplinary notice for Carriage House Lounge & China King Family Restaurant was issued on July 22, effective Aug. 21-22.

The bar and restaurant’s parent company, Bluenose Enterprises Ltd., is owned by Port Hawkesbury mayor Billy Joe MacLean.

The bar was busted in December for violating five of the province’s liquor license regulations after an event listing for “adult entertainment” caught a Mountie's attention.

According to an agreed statement of facts, the Mountie witnessed four strippers in the bar “in direct physical contact with the four male patrons who were seated” – a violation of the province’s exotic dancing laws.

The law only allows nude strippers to perform one at a time, the Cape Breton Post reports. The bar was also lacking a proper stage for exotic dancing, another violation.

In a career spanning four decades, MacLean is no stranger to scandal.

In 1986, he was convicted on 11 counts of fraud and was ousted from his then-cabinet position in the province’s legislature. But the conviction didn't tarnish his career.

A recipient of a Diamond Jubilee medal, MacLean is currently serving his ninth, and last, term as mayor.
