Talk about your dine and dash. Or in this case, it's more of a dine and swim.
Two fishermen were left a little rattled after a fish robbed them off their catch during a fishing trip near Bonita Springs, in the southwestern region of Florida earlier in August.
But the thief didn't go unnoticed though. The fishermen had a camera running as they managed to capture a four-foot nurse shark, reeling in the creature alongside the boat. But the shark wasn't alone.
Beneath the depths of the murky-green water was a massive grouper. What happened next shocked them even more.
The video was posted to Reddit on Wednesday with a little backgrounder on the incident.
"Ran out to the reef at around 8 a.m. yesterday and wasn't having much luck. Put out a chum block, set down some blue runners on the reef and waited. Had a 15lb goliath grouper take and brought him up, as I brought him to the boat, the monster goliath shown in the video came and tried to steal him," wrote a user by the name of gimbb14.
"About 30 minutes later I had about a 5 foot nurse shark take and brought him up. As I was dehooking the shark, the goliath came back and inspected but didn't attack him. Finally, about an hour after the nurse shark, I hooked the black tip behind the boat in the chum slick, and then the hilarity in the video began."
According to the Florida Museum of Natural History, goliath groupers can grow up to 2.5 metres in length and typically weight up to 800 pounds, though the largest ever recorded in the state weighed in at 680 pounds. Their diet usually revolves around crustaceans, fish and octopi but now you can add sharks to that list.
