'Canada's Smartest' people revealed

CBC has revealed the list of 32 of the brightest and most agile minds in the country who will go on to compete on Canada's Smartest Person.

If you think the nation's smartest must be inorganic chemists or astrophysicists, then the list of contestants in the running may surprise you.

A cheese salesman from North Rustico, P.E.I.; a 16-year-old high school student from Peterborough, Ont. and a fighter pilot from Calgary, Alta. are among the brainiacs chosen to compete in CBC's interactive television series.

In an effort to redefine intelligence, the competition is based on more than IQ. Each week four contestants will duke it out in six categories including musical, physical, social and linguistic.

The final eight will compete in the series finale, pitting brain against brain for the right to earn the title of Canada's Smartest Person.

If you want to take a stab at finding out how smart you are from the safety of your own home, you can play along on the Canada's Smartest Person website, or download the app available later this month.

Tune-in to the special two-hour season premiere with hosts Jeff Douglas and Jessi Cruickshank on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT), and each Sunday after for an hour.
