Two-time Canadian figure skating champion Kaetlyn Osmond suffered a foot injury during a routine choreography session in Edmonton on Thursday, Skate Canada corporate communications director Barb MacDonald confirmed to CBC News.

It’s unclear how long Osmond, 18, will be sidelined or the severity of her injury.

MacDonald said Osmond was evaluated by the Skate Canada medical team.

But the Canadian champion’s sister, Natasha Osmond, revealed on Facebook that her sibling was scheduled to have surgery Friday.

“To all Kaetlyn’s family, friend and fans. She had an accident on the ice and unfortunately the results mean surgery today. She is sad to not to be able to skate for a while but is in good spirits and is hoping for a speedy recovery.

But MacDonald wouldn’t confirm the surgery, saying only Osmond is “undergoing additional assessment."

MacDonald said she expects to release and update on Osmond’s condition Monday.
