Ikea recalls Gunggung children's swings due to injury risk

Swedish furniture maker Ikea is recalling a children's swing due to possible risk of injury.

The recall involves the Gunggung children's swing sold for indoor and outdoor use for children ages three to seven.

The swing is made of green polyester fabric that hangs from a plastic suspension fitting attached to steel hooks.

Ikea has received several reports across the globe — including one in Germany, two in Austria and one in Canada — of the suspension fittings breaking. In one case, a child suffered a fractured leg in a fall.

Health Canada says there has been no reported injuries to Canadian children.

"At Ikea, the safety and security of everyone who comes into contact with our product is of the utmost importance. Ikea has received reports of incidents showing that the suspension fittings on Gunggung swing do not live up to Ikea quality requirements posing a risk of injury," the company states on its website.

Ikea sold 299 swings in Canada in July and August. The swings were first sold worldwide in April.

According to Health Canada, those who have bought the swing should immediately remove it and take it back to Ikea for a full refund.
