A 79-year-old pedestrian is dead after an accident involving a TTC streetcar.

The streetcar hit the pedestrian near the Yonge Street and St. Clair Avenue intersection on Thursday evening.

He was transported to a local hospital. The victim was first reported to be in life-threatening condition by Traffic Services, which later confirmed he had died.

There is currently no streetcar service between St. Clair and St. Clair West stations, the TTC tweeted.

The 512 St. Clair streetcar is turning back at St. Clair West station. Shuttle buses are operating.
