Emma Watson Takes On Feminism At UN In A Way That's Hard To Fight (VIDEO)

WATCH: Emma Watson's Feminist Speech Meant Specifically For Men

Actress Emma Watson has an idea about how feminism can change the world.

"How can we affect change in the world, when only half of it is invited to participate, or feel welcomed in the conversation?," the 24-year-old said during a United Nations (UN) event in New York City over the weekend.

But the actress, best known for her role as Hermione in the "Harry Potter" films, wasn't talking about women. Instead, she was specifically asking the other half of the population to get involved.

"Men, I would like to take this opportunity to extend your formal invitation," she continued. "Gender equality is your issue too."

In this moving speech, which you can watch in full in the video above, Watson speaks emotionally about the rights she was lucky enough to receive as a girl growing up in the U.K., and how that wouldn't have been the case without her father's very important role in supporting her.

"My parents didn't love me less because I was a daughter. My school didn't limit me because I was a girl. My mentors didn't assume that I would go less far because I might give birth to a child one day.

Watson, who was recently named the UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, also launched the "HeForShe" campaign, which asks men around the world to sign on as "inadvertent feminists," who inherently believe in equality for both genders.
