Police in Surrey, B.C., are investigating a home invasion and shooting overnight that left one man in the hospital with gunshot wounds.

RCMP say the incident happened around 1 a.m. PT Tuesday, when  at least three masked men broke into a house at 76 Avenue and 146 Street.

Once inside they tied up a man in one of the home's two basement suites.

But a 21-year-old man in the neighbouring suite, who police say is a friend of the target of the home invasion, heard a commotion, and intervened.

Police say he was shot and is now in hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Neighbours reported hearing multiple shots fired.

The masked men took off and no arrests have been made in the case, but police say they've been to the house before, and know the occupants.
