Disgusting 9-Pound Hairball Removed From Teen's Stomach

Your cat's hairball has nothing on this monstrous hair clump that was found inside a teen's body.

Doctors in Kyrgyzstan were able to remove a nine-pound hairball from 18-year-old Ayperi Alekseeva's stomach. According to reports, Alekseeva's parents brought her to the hospital after the hairball had blocked her digestive system.

“The parents brought her in after she started losing weight, and she couldn’t eat anything. By the time we got her she could not even drink water. We realized we needed to operate immediately," senior professor Bahadir Bebezov of the hospital told News.com.au.

Doctors concluded the oozing hairball was the result of the teen's habits of eating hair off carpets (they also found wool inside the hairball) and her own hair tips.

Trichotillomania is a disorder that urges people to pull, pick at or eat their hair. While some people may experience a mild form of the disorder, the Mayo Clinic adds they are also more likely to pick at their skin or bite their nails. Doctors, however, have not concluded Alekseeva was suffering from trichotillomania.
