Homicide investigators in B.C. are probing the death of a young man who was found dead in an SUV on Thursday night.
UPDATE - 6 p.m.: The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Harwindip Singh Baringh, reports Global News.
Police, who were responding to reports of shots fired in the area of Sparrow Drive and Goldfinch Street, found the victim inside the dark-coloured vehicle with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A search of the area for other victims and suspects turned up empty, said Abbotsford police Const. Ian MacDonald.
Witnesses said two vehicles — a newer white Acura TL and a dark-coloured sedan — sped away from the scene.
MacDonald said he believed the victim was from Abbotsford.
It's unclear if the death is connected to an escalating conflict between two groups of young people in the area.
"We haven't ruled anything out at this point, but ... probably too early to make any suggestion as to whether there's any connection to what we previously deemed the Townline Hill conflict," said MacDonald.
Since May, police have investigated more than two dozen incidents involving vandalism of homes and vehicles belonging to the groups' family and friends.
Police say some face-to-face confrontations have been reported and that the pattern of retaliation may result in serious injuries to those involved or people connected to them.
