Homicide investigators say heavily armed police officers arrested a 16-year-old boy last night, in connection with the killing of Aladdin Ramadan.

Ramadan was found shot to death near Brentwood Mall in Burnaby, B.C. on the evening of Sept 24.

Police say members of the Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team arrested a teenager last night, and found a loaded handgun in his possession.

Police say the 16-year-old has now been charged with 2nd-degree murder in Ramadan's death. Staff/Sgt. Jennifer Pound says the arrest took place in what she called a very public location in Surrey.

“At the time he was arrested the suspect was carrying a loaded firearm. With the assistance of Burnaby RCMP and the  Emergency Response Team a quick arrest was actioned in order to prevent potential harm to police and the public,” Pound said.

The name of the accused won't be released because of his age, said police.

Ramadan had no criminal record, but police described his killing as "targeted" and said three males were seen speeding from the scene.
