RED DEER, Alta. - A man who shot a gas station clerk in central Alberta with a shotgun during a robbery last year has been sentenced to nine years in prison.

Jeffrey Geary, who is 31, pleaded guilty in August to robbery, possession of a prohibited firearm, manufacturing a prohibited firearm and aggravated assault.

Jaysen Reyes was hit in the face and hand from a sawed-off shotgun blast on Sept. 11, 2013, at the West Park Fas Gas in Red Deer.

Court heard that Reyes may never fully recover from the gunshot wounds.

He still suffers from his injuries and is living at a rehabilitation facility in Cochrane.

Geary was also handed a lifetime firearm ban and was given credit for the year he has already spent in custody. (CHUB)
