Police in Nanaimo have issued a public warning after a man tried to lure a 12-year-old boy into a green, older model GMC Safari van.

RCMP say the boy was walking along Hammond Bay Road near Entwhistle Drive Friday around 1:30 p.m. PT when the van pulled up with two white males inside.

One of the men got out and opened a rear sliding door and yelled at the boy to come over to the van and help him look for something according to police.

Police say the boy ran away and when he arrived at his school told the first adult he saw who called 911.

Nanaimo RCMP responded immediately but were unable to locate the van.

An RCMP forensic artist is preparing a sketch."The youth was extremely bothered by the interaction. He also did everything we ask children to do when confronted with uncomfortable situations and should be commended for his actions, " said Nanaimo RCMP Const.Gary O'Brien.

Police are looking for two white, middle-aged heavyset men.

They're asking anyone with information on the incident or the van to contact them at 250-754-2345 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
