9-Year-Old Gives Away His Thanksgiving Dinner

A Nova Scotia boy is happy to have homemade pizza instead of turkey this Thanksgiving, because his holiday dinner is going to those in need.

Nine-year-old Jacob Boudreau decided to give away his Thanksgiving meal after watching "The Pursuit of Happyness", a movie about a homeless father and son, CTV reported.

"He said, maybe we should give up our meal and give it to somebody else,” his mother, Shelley Clee, told the Halifax Chronicle-Herald. “And my husband and I looked at each other and said, ‘That’s a manageable thing to do.’”

The family gave their Thanksgiving groceries, worth about $70, to a single mother and her three children.

They also created a Facebook page for Jacob's project asking others to donate their time and money to the cause. They received an outpouring of donations, and were able to provide 22 families with food for dinner, according to CTV.

One beneficiary, Mandi Northrup, told Global that a Thanksgiving dinner costs around $50, which is her whole food bill for a week. The donation meant she could make the holiday special for her young son.
