Toronto police arrested a 22-year-old man after he allegedly attempted to rob two elderly women over the Thanksgiving long weekend.

Cori Siu faces two charges of robbery, police announced in a statement.

On Saturday, Oct. 11, an 89-year-old woman was walking towards her building near Spadina Avenue and Oxford Street. Police allege Siu approached her, grabbed her purse and threw her to the ground before fleeing from the area on his bicycle with her purse.

Two days later, a 76-year-old woman was walking near Robert Street and Sussex Avenue, about a kilometre north from the scene of the first crime. Police allege Siu also approached this woman and attempted to pull her purse loose from her arm.

However, she resisted and a brief struggle ensued, police said, that ended with the man falling backwards onto his bicycle and the woman falling onto the sidewalk. Siu then fled the area, police said.

Toronto police arrested Siu on Monday. He was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning.
