The program. #ConsentMcGill, was developed in collaboration with students, faculty and staff, according to McGill’s website. Its theme, borrowed from Concordia’s consent campaign, is Ask, Listen and Respect.
The athletes in the video talk about what consent means to them, and how they will work to foster a safe environment for students.
#ConsentMcGill comes as the university is still grappling with how it handled recent incidents of sexual assault involving student athletes.
Bianca Tétrault was hired in April as a sexual assault response coordinator for the university.
“The goal is really to educate the larger community around consent in regards to sexual activity and day-to-day life,” she said.
Information booths will be set up at McGill’s downtown and West Island campuses.
McGill said it is also reviewing its policies and procedures in light of the incidents.
The #ConsentMcGill campaign is scheduled to last all year.
