WHL Roundup: Tambellini scores the OT winner to lead Calgary past Medicine Hat

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. - Adam Tambellini scored his sixth goal of the season at 3:08 of overtime to lead the Calgary Hitmen to a 2-1 victory over the first-place Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday night in Western Hockey League play.

Mack Shields was solid in net for the Hitmen, making 40 saves to help secure the win.

Travis Sanheim had a first-period goal for Calgary (5-3-1).

Chad Butcher responded for the Tigers (8-1-1) with his eighth goal on the year.

Marek Langhamer suffered the loss, turning aside 17 shots.

The Hitmen failed to scored on four power-play chances while Medicine Hat did not score on two power plays.

BRANDON, Man. — Ivan Provorov struck twice and added an assist in the Wheat Kings' win over Swift Current.

Duncan Campbell also had two goals for Brandon (7-2-1). Jesse Gabrielle, Rihards Bukarts, Braylon Shmyr and Tim McGauley rounded out the offence.

Jake DeBrusk, Carter Rigby and Coda Gordon chipped in for the Broncos (6-6-1).

CRANBROOK, B.C. — Wyatt Hoflin turned away 34 shots to record his first shutout of the season for Kootenay against Regina.

Troy Murray scored on the power play 33 seconds into the second period for the Ice (3-6-0).

Daniel Wapple stopped 15 shots for the Pats (4-4-1) in the loss.

MOOSE JAW, Sask. — Oliver Bjorkstrand found the back of the net twice and added an assist as Portland downed the Warriors.

Dominic Turgeon also had two goals for the Winterhawks (2-7-2) while Alex Schoenborn and Layne Viveiros rounded out the attack.

Brayden Point and Brett Howden responded for Moose Jaw (5-4-1).
