Federal prison in central Alberta in lockdown after inmate injured in attack

DRUMHELLER, Alta. - A federal prison in Alberta has been put in lockdown after an inmate was assaulted.

The Correctional Service of Canada says the inmate at Drumheller Institution was found injured on Monday afternoon.

The inmate was taken offsite to an unnamed hospital for treatment.

No staff members or other inmates were injured.

RCMP and the medium-security institution are investigating.

The department says the attacker has been identified.

Visits have been suspended until a search of the prison is complete.
